I wouldn’t have another 17" laptop if you paid me.
I used to lug one of those beasts on business trips. Just the carrying around of one of those through airports, on shuttle buses, etc. was enough to make my shoulder sore. And when you come right down to it, the larger screen doesn’t really show you more. Unless, of course, you have perfect eyesight and don’t mind squinting at teeny text. No, thanks.
For me, the ideal travel laptop is Apple’s old 12" iBook. I’d use a 13" (because that’s all available these days) and put up with a 14" (I have a 14" HP that work provided), but no larger.
If you’re going to be carrying it around a lot, then yes, it’s most likely too big. If it’s mostly gonna sit in your dorm or apartment room, then it should be find. That much weight plus your books is a recipe for hurting your shoulder or your back.
not bad but as others said You have to carry it!..I too had to carry a monster around to do "suitcase" teaching and instructional seminars. the computer (with projector) was heaver that my carry -on luggage! If your just using it for notes in class then down loading it to a desktop I’d look at a Net book. If its your one-and-only, you may be stuck!
I think it may be a little large to lug around, anything with a display over 15" tends to become pretty bulky to lug around
The question is subjective. how much can you carry. why not try a roller case to carry your school stuff thats what I would do. You have books and other materials you need to carry so find a nice bag to roll instead of worrying about the size worry about your grades and what computer will help you do that best. personally i have a 15, and a 17 and i find the 17 with full keyboard better with a wireless usb mouse or touch pad rather than a keyboard thats hard to use. but again it is up to you and your "need"
any laptop is an investment and you should ask will I use it for other things like watching dvd’s between classes ? can I or will I use it for online or games. can I do all that I need no matter where I am at ?
Good luck and work hard in school.
